Management Team

greg schultz
vice president

Since joining The Sherwood Group in 1984 (then known as Organization Management Systems, Inc.), Greg Schultz has been the driving force behind innovative and successful client and corporate programs and strategies that have contributed to Sherwood's reputation for innovation and leadership. He serves as managing partner for Sherwood clients, supports account executives and provides strategic support and consulting to associations.

Greg's broad vision and perspective is informed by his progression through Sherwood, serving as advertising manager, editor, director of communications and IT manager before moving to the member services area as an administrator and then account executive. In 1990 he was named vice president and purchased the firm from the founder in 1991 with John Waxman.

As an association executive, he has helped Sherwood clients achieve growth and market position. His successes include serving as the founding executive director and marketing strategist for the International Society of Stem Cell Research from 2002-2005, mapping and driving the organization's growth from just an idea to the recognized international focal point for the field. He served as executive director for the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies from 1994-2001, helping the organization develop public education resources, grant-funded publications and form connections with related organizations around the world, media and individual, corporate and government supporters. In the early 1980s he was responsible for creating a pioneering and labor-saving computer-based abstract submission and electronic publishing system for the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management.

Prior to joining Sherwood, Greg served as a circulation manager for another association management firm, launched and ran his own retail music business and was regional merchandising manager for a national bookstore chain.

Greg is a leader in the association management community, having served as a board member on the American Society of Association Executives Association Management Section Council and a committee chair for the Association Management Company Institute (formerly the International Association of Association Management Companies). He is a frequent consultant and speaker on marketing, technology and strategy for nonprofit and for-profit organizations. His business writing has been published in magazines, journals and textbooks. He has covered sports and features for newspapers and contributed short stories to a national fiction review. Greg earned his journalism degree (with honors) from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
