(TSGI) is to provide associations with leadership and staff services that inspire and sustain the development of communities for education, advocacy, and service. We pursue continuous improvement in our capabilities and culture to maintain a leadership position within our field and to attract and retain an outstanding multidisciplinary staff. To accomplish this mission, TSGI supports the professional needs of the associations and societies it serves and oversees the continuing medical education (CME) activities of its medical associations and society clients. TSGI's Education Council is comprised of members who have extensive experience in CME-related activities and representatives from each of the medical associations and societies in order to triangulate planning and communication between TSGI, the associations and societies presenting the education programs, and the primary contact to the ACCME. Purpose and GoalsTSGI's CME program aims to develop and promote increased knowledge, competency, and professional performance of its physician participants. Educational activities will introduce physicians to new and updated diagnoses and treatment options, facilitate translation between research and clinical practice, and provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and methodologies. The overall CME program will provide its physicians with ample educational opportunities designed to promote the highest standards in patient care and improved clinical practice as recognized by the various fields of specialty medicine to which they belong. We are committed to providing high quality and relevant CME activities that result in significant contributions to the diverse disciplines of medicine and research supported by this program. Content AreasWe serve a dynamic group of medical associations and societies, including three which are directly ACCME accredited (ASTMH - Association of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, APSA - American Pediatric Surgical Association, ASDP - Association of Dermatopathology). Others include the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies, International Society of Stem Cell Research, Society of Vascular Medicine, Academy of Eating Disorders, and the Joint Meeting of the Association of American Physicians and the American Society for Clinical Investigation that currently seek joint sponsorship for CME activities. Together, they represent a broad scope of content focusing on promoting the exchange of scientific and technical information, advancing research in their respective fields, and presenting current developments in each specialty to a wider audience of practitioners, specialists, and other health care practitioners. AudienceThe CME program has been designed primarily for all physicians involved in the various fields of specialty medicine to which they belong and are supported by TSGI. Physicians participating in the CME activities include national and international academicians, private practice physicians, and public health clinicians, as well as members and nonmembers of the respective associations and societies we serve. Depending on the CME content, secondary audiences include physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and other professionals related to their respective areas of medicine. Our education program is based on sound adult education principles; that is, we are committed to conducting regular needs assessments, developing relevant and measurable learning objectives, applying diverse teaching methods and content, and implementing various evaluation tools. Expected ResultsOur program is continually assessed to determine its impact in developing and promoting increased knowledge, competency, and professional performance of learner physicians. The program is expected to improve physician competence and performance in areas targeted as practice gaps including daily practice, treatment outcomes, diagnostic concurrence and standardization. Effectiveness will be measured through a variety of evaluation tools including pre and post tests, session and post-session evaluations as well as follow-up surveys. Where appropriate, self assessment data and other performance measures will be implemented to support a data driven program. |
